Festa della Madonna della Salute 2023

The Celebration of Salute evokes a sincere popular religious sentiment. Like the Celebration of the Redeemer, this celebration also recalls another terrible plague, that of the years 1630-31, and the consequent vow made by the Doge to obtain the intercession of the Virgin. To this day, thousands of citizens parade on November 21st in front of the main altar of the imposing Church of Salute to perpetuate the centuries-old bond of gratitude that connects the city to the Virgin Mary.

A Magical Atmosphere

Those who have the opportunity to be in Venice during the day of Salute breathe an atmosphere of genuine and heartfelt popular participation, of religiousness intensely linked to the history and traditions of the city.

The pilgrimage to the majestic Church of Salute testifies to the still vibrant and intense connection between the city and the Madonna.

The Votive Bridge

Every year, for the Celebration of Salute, a temporary bridge is built on boats that crosses the Grand Canal, connecting the San Moisè and S. Maria del Giglio area (San Marco district) with the Longhena Basilica (Dorsoduro district) to allow the passage of the procession.

Between Sacred and Profane

Even today, the Celebration of Salute offers a mix of feelings and motivations: alongside the sincere religious sentiment, there coexists a more secular and joyous aspect.

10:00 AM Solemn Mass presided over by the Patriarch of Venice

From Sunday, November 19th, to Tuesday, November 21st, 2023, the traditional market with about 30 stalls offering candles and various items (fritters, candied fruit, sweets, roasted chestnuts, balloons, games, and more) will return.

Also planned are many initiatives dedicated to residents of the 44 municipalities of the metropolitan city of Venice by Venetian museums.

On November 21, 2023, extraordinary opening of the Naval Historical Museum of the Navy.
