From “Lo cunto de li cunti” written by Giambattista Basile (1575-1632)
Actress Eleonora Fuser, through a physical research based on techniques from the Commedia dell’Arte and the oriental theatre, has elaborated some of the tales from Lo cunto de li cunti, and has created a very enduring theatrical performance. Lo cunto de li cunti is a very synthesis of a whole culture. Its theatrical value is transmitted also by the dialect, element full of versatility.
In the Favola dell’Orsa, a fundamental figure is the epic poet, performed by Michela Mocchiutti. The poet can change the reality, modify the time and the space and, using legends and fantasy, create new characters.
Lo Cunto de li cunti is the oldest and most abundant book of popular tales, and it appeared between 1634 and 1636. Famous storytellers like the Grimm brothers and Hans Christian Andersen consulted it, and was also inspirational for some play writers like Carlo Gozzi.
