Murano glass returns to light up Piazza San Marco with the second edition of Murano Illumina il Mondo, a project promoted by The Venice Glass Week and the City of Venice that focuses on the island of Murano through the successful collaboration between glass and contemporary art.
Throughout the winter period, from November 22, 2024 to March 4, 2025, eleven beautiful chandeliers, the result of collaborations between internationally renowned artists and some of the most prestigious Murano furnaces, will be lit every evening in the world's most beautiful square, between the arches of the Procuratie Vecchie in Piazza San Marco.
The selected artists were asked to reinterpret an everyday object, the chandelier, using ancient and modern glass techniques available to them by the most prestigious Murano furnaces and their Masters.
Murano Illumina il Mondo is made possible thanks to the generosity of artists and furnaces who believed in the project, as well as the collaboration between The Venice Glass Week, Fondazione Musei Civici di Venezia, Le Stanze Del Vetro, Fondazione Giorgio Cini, Pentagram Stiftung, Istituto Veneto di Scienze Lettere ed Arti, Consorzio Promovetro Murano, and the City of Venice.
