UPCYCLING GLASS

Museo del Vetro di Murano

Topics:
The Murano Glass Museum hosts an exhibition that, for the first time, presents about forty works created by the master glassmakers of the island using recycled industrial glass, a material they are not accustomed to working with: it is, in fact, glass produced from secondary raw materials, specifically transparent and colorless recycled glass, absolutely different from the traditional Murano glass normally used.
Taking up the challenge were fifteen master craftsmen from companies authorized to use the Artistic Glass® Murano Region trademark, who have demonstrated that beautiful works of art can also arise from glass waste, enhanced by techniques such as blowing, glass fusion, lampworking, as well as grinding and beating, which have made Murano craftsmanship unique in the world.

The goal is to raise awareness among the public about recycling, more conscious use of raw materials, and sustainability, presenting an exhibition that recreates, inside the Brandolini Hall, the interiors of a modern domestic loft.

The exhibition, promoted by the Promovetro Murano Consortium, manager of the Artistic Glass® Murano brand, Veneto Region, and Venice and Rovigo Chamber of Commerce in collaboration with the Municipality of Venice, MUVE Foundation, CoReVe - Glass Recovery Consortium, and Italian Energy Company, is realized with the support of rehub and Veritas, and the technical contribution of Effetre Murano, Favini, and Officina Pinzon. Murano: Upcycling Glass is part of the initiatives of The Venice Glass Week 2023, the international festival dedicated to glass art that the city of Venice has been organizing since 2017, and supports the Sea the Change project for the protection of the lagoon ecosystem.
