Natale di Luce 2021

Christmas is approaching, and the city of Venice is preparing to welcome the most awaited event of the year by illuminating calli and campi (alleys and small squares) and streets and squares with the warm golden light of the holidays. The main gateway to Venice is lit up, a connection between the city of water and the city of the land, as well as Piazza San Marco and the Marciana area, and the different routes in the sestieri (districts) of Santa Croce, Cannaregio, San Polo, Dorsoduro, San Marco and Castello. The heart of Mestre, Piazza Ferretto, and the adjacent central areas are lit up, as well as all the “cities of Venice” from the mainland to the islands.

Promoted by the Municipality of Venice and Vela Spa as part of the “Christmas of Light 2021” project, the lights will be lit from November 21, the day of the Festa della Salute. They will remain lit until Shrove Tuesday, March 1, 2022, the last day of Carnival.

An initiative that intends, once again, to represent a gesture of affection, warmth and serenity for the local community in a year that, despite the gradual recovery, has not yet left behind exhausting and difficult months.

“Venice wants to celebrate Christmas 2021 in the name of Light - announces Mayor Luigi Brugnaro - A symbol of new life to which we all look with confidence and hope and that we are sure will bring us strength and the desire to return to life. The lights that we wanted to spread throughout the territory and the many fir trees festively decorated and set up in our squares become elements that warm this time of year and accompany us until the end of Carnival to emphasize the desire to make this new light shine.

A schedule full of events and exhibitions that will involve the whole city and that we will experience with the people we love the most, our family and friends in total safety and full compliance with the rules against the spread of the virus. It will also be a Christmas full of culture and beauty with special and prolonged openings of our civic museums, with traditional concerts and theatrical performances. We honour our excellences in the year the City celebrates the 1600th anniversary of its foundation. For this occasion, it wants to show the world a new Light made of hope but above all the desire to start living again”.
