Church of San Nicolò - Lido

Riviera S. Nicolò, 26
30126 Venezia VE
The Church of St. Nicholas with the adjoining Benedictine Monastery, is probably one of the most important artistic sites of Lido. The present church is a reconstruction dating to 1626 with a clear Baroque bell mold. Inside the building with a single nave, noteworthy is the choir by Giovanni da Crema and the paintings " Saint John" by Palma il Giovane and " Madonna col Putto" by Palma il Vecchio: at the entrance of the church there is also a Crucifix wood dating from 1300. Much of today's oldest church is the adjacent Convent of the Benedictines, whose foundation dates back to 1043. But even at that time, unfortunately, remain only two beautiful Venetian- Byzantine capitals. The beautiful cloister dates back to 1500, the period when the monastery was rebuilt.
