“Venice out of Venice”. Venetian construction traditions and mainland building techniques.
Italian Ministry of Culture (MiC) Regional Secretariat for Veneto
The Regional Secretariat for Veneto of the Italian Ministry of Culture (MiC) and the Municipality of Asolo (TV) is organizing a one-day conference at the Duse Theatre in Asolo entitled "Venice out of Venice". Venetian construction traditions and mainland building techniques. The speakers are architects, engineers and art historians who have dedicated years of studying the cultural traditions of Venice in various fields from the architectural to the archival, artistic and artisan fields with the aim of preserving the technological know-how achieved and developed by the Republic of Venice and its territory over the centuries.
In particular, the theme of the conference focuses on the study and presentation of the different and peculiar building techniques that were widespread in the Veneto Region from the Middle Ages to more recent times, which can be seen in the construction of military, ecclesial and civil artifacts in general such as city walls, fortresses, strongholds, castles, churches and convents that still dot the multi-coloured landscape of the Veneto Region. Among the examples that will be considered are the Rocca di Asolo, recently restored with ministerial funds and presented during the European Heritage Days 2020, the city walls of Montagnana and Follina Abbey.
The common thread that links these buildings is the memory and tradition embodied by the artisan guilds that were active in the construction and supply of building materials such as stone, timber, iron, bricks and copper. The conference is accredited by the Order of Architects of the province of Treviso with 6 Professional Development Credits and will be introduced by the institutional greetings of the authorities involved.
