A small but exquisite exhibition dedicated to Giovanni Soccol, a Venetian artist with a long and fruitful career in various disciplines: painting, set design, architecture and film-making.
After training variously with Guido Cadorin, Mario Deluigi and Carlo Scarpa, Soccol’s work in the 1960s followed the abstract current, whereas in subsequent decades he produced several renowned pictorial cycles: Isole, Basiliche, Cisterne, Petroliere, Labirinti, exhibited in numerous important solo shows in Italy and Europe.
Ca’ Pesaro has exhibited two of his most recent serie: Teatri e i Labirinti d’invenzione.
Created between 2014 and 2017, the latter series offers fascinating, symbolic scenarios that represent a true emotional investigation, a journey through a perceptible and imaginary interwoven universe to reach the human soul and its interior “landscape”. After the enclosure and inevitability of Labirinti, the next room presents the scenic openness of Teatri, whose sharp outlines regard the sky, reflecting its fascinating changes.
The exhibition closes with a large Marea from 2011, in which the inspiration for Teatri is visible in the presence of nature and architectural structures that merge together in space to form a dense totality of poetry and mystery.
