Church of Madonna dell'Orto
The monumental Church of the Madonna dell'Orto is in Cannaregio, in the field-square of the same name, which preserves the ancient paving barbed cooked in stone boxes of Istria. It was built in the fourteenth century and rebuilt in the fifteenth century, the church was dedicated to St. Christopher, but soon took on the current popular name in honor of the miraculous image of the Virgin and Child found in a nearby garden. The magnificent brick façade is one of the most attractive of Venice, evidence of the transition from Romanesque to Gothic and from Gothic to Renaissance; inside the structure preserves extraordinary works of art, in particular by Jacopo Robusti, known as Tintoretto, whose house was near a few steps from there and was buried in this church.
