Palazzo Grassi presents the Biennale de l'Image en Mouvement

BIM is a festival dedicated to art videos and films commissioned and produced by the Centre d'Art Contemporain Genève. A selection of the 2014 edition will be screened at the Teatrino di Palazzo Grassi in the presence of the artists.

Wednesday 28 October

  • 6pm Opening with Andrea Bellini, Director of Centre d’Art Contemporain Genève, Caroline Bourgeois, Curator of the exhibition "Slip of the Tongue", and Martin Bethenod, Director of Palazzo Grassi-Punta della Dogana.

 

  • 6.30pm Frammento 53, Italy/Switzerland, 2011/2015, 71'
    by Carlo Gabriele Tribbioli & Federico Lodoli
    A feature-length film on war, conceived in its necessary and universal dimension, faced both as an actual and archetypical event. The film presents itself as a moment of critical confrontation with the values that war implies and expresses. The phenomenon has been investigated on the field in Liberia, a country of peculiar, radical and unsettled conflicts.

    San Siro, Italy, 2014, 26'
    Séance, Italy, 2014, 30'
    by Yuri Ancarani
    Yuri Ancarani was born in Ravenna in 1972. Visual artist, director, he also teaches at NABA - Nuova Accademia Belle Arti di Milano. His first film, Il Capo, is set in a marble quarry in Monte Bettogli and depicts the fascinating work of a construction site manager amid maddening noise, dangerous choreography and mesmerising landscapes.


Thursday 29 October

    Workshop with Carlo Gabriele Tribbioli & Federico Lodoli
    The young Italian directors, who both graduated in philosophy, will explain the working process that led to Frammento 53. Free entrance.

 

  • 6pm
    Fish Place, Heart Clock, Canada, 2014, 60'
    by Arvo Leo
    A film dedicated to hunter turned artist Pudlo Pudlat (1916-1992). Following an accident, Pudlat had to leave Baffin island in the Arctic archipelago and settle down in Cape Dorset, a settlement where he started drawing with the help of the local printer.

 

  • 8pm
    Fort Buchanan, France, 2014, 65'
    by Benjamin Crotty
    A tragicomedy set over four seasons that follows the lives of a small group of military families living together on a fictitious army base: a gay couple, their adopted daughter, a woman of a certain age, three pretty young wives (whose husbands are stationed abroad), and a personal trainer.

    La Disparition des Aïtus, Switzerland, 2014, 35'
    by Pauline Julier
    Pauline Julier has exhibited widely as a filmmaker, primarily showing her work in museums and art contexts around the world. Her work questions the narrow and ambiguous connections between reality and fiction. La Disparition des Aïtus is s poetic essay about Tuvalu, a micro-state in the South Pacific that is threatened by rising sea levels.

    Nuvem, 2011, Portugal, 30'
    Nuvem negra, 2014, Portugal, 19'
    by Basil Da Cunha
    Nuvem and Nuvem Negra are both set in Reboleira, a favela in the centre of Lisbon, threatened by the construction of a motorway. Nuvem was selected by the Quinzaine des réalisateurs at the Cannes Film Festival 2011.
