Completed in 1466, at the centre of the "burgus de Mestre", for the purposes of housing the Podestà and the Capitano of Mestre

The Town Hall of Mestre is called Ca' Collato, property of the Count Odoardo Collato, and was erected in 1729. Of modest proportions, it was comprised of just two floors that occupied a much smaller area than the present-day building, with a courtyard adjacent to a branch of the Marzenego River and a very large vegetable garden. The inner courtyard was connected to what is now Via San Girolamo by a bridge, which crossed the Marzenego. The building was used since its construction as the site of the municipal offices, the magistrates' court and the prisons. Due to a lack of space, in 1840, the City Administration commissioned a project to renovate the building, which envisaged expansion of the building on part of the area used as a vegetable garden and the addition of another floor. The works were set to begin immediately but due to a lack of funds, actually commenced only years later, in 1856. The project was finally completed after a structural inspection of the building conducted in 1870. In 1921, the Magistrate's Court was moved definitively from the building to the spaces alongside the Ministerial Superintendent's office: on this occasion, the building underwent several major changes to its distribution and functions. Renovation work on the building ended in 2005 and resulted in a modern and functional council hall and a space set aside for special events.
