Living between land and water. From prehistoric pile-dwellings to Venice

"Living between land and water. From prehistoric pile-dwellings to Venice"

Venice boasts long history and its establishment, as a human settlement, is due to a "synoecism" of the inhabited areas that arose on the other strips of land of the lagoon following the barbarian invasions that prompted the population to take refuge in the small island that will be the soul of the Republic of Venice. The urban layout of Venice - a World Heritage Site - rests on wooden foundations; poles embedded in the soft and silty soil, which still support the platforms on which the Venetian palaces rise, with their heritage of history and culture. A technique that lives up to significant engineering challenges, but which originates from the Neolithic period. During the course of 2021, Venice is celebrating its anniversary of the foundation of the city built on water, shrouded in mythical features.  At the same time the first decade of another UNESCO site, which commemorates the "Prehistoric pile-dwelling sites of the Alps" will be celebrated. The thematic exhibition will display the highlights of a fundamental moment in our history: the pile-dwelling world, thanks to scientific data from the most up-to-date research and direct observation of the exhibits.
