Fabrizio Plessi The Golden Age

Topics:

The work of contemporary master Fabrizio Plessi is celebrated with a spectacular installation in the windows of Museo Correr in Piazza San Marco.
L’età dell’oro (The Golden Age) presents the artist’s past and current production on the theme of gold: a noble, magical, alchemical and precious material strongly linked to Venice. Flowing golden water, flashes of golden fire and primordial lava accompany the visitor in an evocation of Plessi’s great iconographies, created during recent years of extraordinary creativity.

Plessi’s large Barche (Boats) are shown from a different perspective, making them appear to navigate through golden waterfalls, and creating an intimate and emotional environment. The windows of Museo Correr offer a rival attraction where flowing gold digital waterfalls become Plessi’s great tribute to his chosen city.
Evoking his Waterfire installation from twenty years ago in the same rooms, he creates a surprising and fascinating dialogue with the gold of the mosaics in the Basilica of San Marco – enhanced by Michael Nyman’s music – to once again highlight the city’s link with the brilliance of the noblest material and the infinite refractions of light.Born in Reggio Emilia in 1940, Fabrizio Plessi attended the art high school and the Accademia di Belle Arti di Venezia, where he later held the Chair of Painting. In 1968 his work began to focus on the theme of water, which he explored and transformed in installations, films, videos and performances. Plessi’s work has appeared at various editions of the Venice Biennale. Bronx in particular, presented at the 42nd edition, is considered one of his major works. In 1993 he received the Miró Medal from UNESCO. At the
53rd edition of the Biennale in 2009 he presented Enigmi degli addii (Enigmas of Farewells), composed of a series of canoes filled with digital water. Plessi shapes and infuses his materials with a precise, intense feeling, and was one of the first artists to tackle the complex experimentation of creating a dialogue between art and technology.
His artistic philosophy constantly informs the structure of his narrative, investing his compositions with a spiritual significance that transforms their appearance.
The mysterious Lave (Lava) conceal unexpected links between the primordial element and the delicacy of the material embedded in it. Together with the paintings and drawings that accompany Plessi’s creations are references to famous iconographies and forms from his production, and the grandeur of Roma, with its captivating flow of golden water, excites a renewed emotional reaction. This sensory itinerary takes visitors into a metaphysical world almost like a reconstructed Arcadia.

The installation will start at 9pm of 1st September 2020, and it will be seen every day from 9am in the morning to 1am at night, until 6th January 2021.
