Church of S. Maria dei Battuti

Via Torre Belfredo
30174 Venezia Mestre VE

The Church of S. Maria dei Battuti was originally the oratory of the hospital built by the Brotherhood of S. Maria dei Battuti in 1324 (the present-day rest home), the most important of the devotional schools. Later, it became an authentic church and after several renovation efforts, was built in the Neo Gothic style at the start of this century. The feast of the "Madonna della Salute" is celebrated each year in November to remember the end of the terrible plague in 1630. Venetians gave thanks by constructing the great Church of the Madonna della Salute on the Grand Canal and still today thousands of people give thanks and ask the Virgin Mary to keep them in good health.
