Regatta of the Ancient Maritime Republics 2021
The Palio of the Ancient Maritime Republics is a competition of galleons with eight rowers, between the crews of the town of Amalfi, Genoa, Pisa and Venice, born after the second world war and held in rotation in the four cities.
The competition is preceded by the solemn historical parade, where people in costume, with flags, trumpets and drums, evoke the events and characters related to the maritime history of the city.
The sports competition pits the crews of four cities, each consisting of eight rowers and a coxswain, on boats, all built with the same parameters, which differ in color and figureheads.
For the winner of the regatta, the coveted trophy in gold and silver produced by Florence Jewellery School which remains in the hands of the winning city for a year, to be offered again at the next race.
December 18th, 2021
3pm Piazza De Ferrari/Largo Pertini: Gathering of the Parade, preceded by the “Banda della Filarmonica Sestrese” marching band. The Parade will leave and march towards Via XXV Aprile, Piazza delle Fontane Marose,Via Garibaldi, Piazza della Meridiana,Via Cairoli, Via Bensa, Piazza dell’Annunziata Via Lomellini, Piazza Fossatello, Via al Ponte Calvi , via Sottoripa, Piazza Caricamento
4pm Piazza Caricamento: the Confeugo parade joins the Ancient Maritime Republics Regatta parade. They will then proceed towards Via Frate Oliverio, Piazza della Raibetta, Via San Lorenzo, Piazza Matteotti, Via Porta Soprana, via Petrarca and Piazza De Ferrari
4.45pm Largo Pertini: Presentation of the crews.
5.30pm Largo Pertini: Confeugo’s Cerimony with the ignition of the traditional Bonfire.
December 19th, 2021
11am Prà, Piazza Sciesa: gathering of the Parade, end then march across the area and along the canal, until the grandstand at the opposite shore.
12.30pm Departure of the Galleons
1pm Award Cerimony
