Presentation of the book: The Mint of Venice after the fall of the Republic. History and restoration of the Marciana Library head office (edited by Ilaria Cavaggioni) Editions Il Poligrafo - Padua
The publication aims to give an account, through a scientific summary of the works, of the commitment of the Italian Ministry of Culture (MiC) in the protection action for the conservation of the compendium Palazzo Reale in Piazza San Marco (The Royal Palace in St. Mark’s Square), one of the most important monumental complexes in Venice, which today is partly occupied by the Marciana National Library, which includes, in addition to the Mint, the Sansovino Library and the Procuratie Nuove. As of the year 2000, thanks to ordinary funding by the MiC and special funding by the Presidency of the Council of Ministers and Lotto Funds, SABAP Ve Lag, based on a unitary conservation project, has implemented a series of maintenance interventions, restoration and safety work to the Marciana Library. The design and implementation of the interventions represented an opportunity to reconstruct, in a single narrative path, the story of the transformative events that the sixteenth-century building of Sansovino underwent after the fall of the Republic of Venice between 1872 and 1904 up until to date and, at the same time, to outline the technical and cultural role that the protection authorities have played in the various historical moments - both centrally and locally - guiding and orienting the difficult process of change, with the need to maintain and guarantee that delicate balance between modernity and tradition and between innovation and conservation.
Venice, The Marciana National Library Thursday 16 September 2021 – 4:00 pm Emanuela Carpani, Renata Casarin, Stefano Campagnolo will discuss these themes with the curator Ilaria Cavaggioni and with the authors: Susy Marcon, Eleonora Zanet, Alberto Lionello, Maria Rosaria Gargiulo, Federica Romaro, Alessandra Turri, Devis Valenti, Francesco Trovò, Maurizio Messina and Alessandra Chemollo (ORCH Agency).
