Creatives of Our Time
Building on the success of the first edition, in which over 2300 young artists took part, the Artefici del nostro tempo (Creatives of Our Time) competition returns, promoted by the Municipality of Venice in collaboration with the Fondazione Musei Civici di Venezia.
This initiative, prompted by Venice Mayor Luigi Brugnaro, is open to young people aged between 18 and 35 who are interested in employing a range of art forms to respond to the question “How will we live together?”, the title of the 2020 Architecture Biennale. Artefici del nostro tempo comprises the following art disciplines: photography, comics and illustration, painting, visual poetry, music video and street art, as well as this year’s new addition, glass design.
The ten works selected from each section will be exhibited from next spring on in prestigious locations, such as Ca’ Pesaro - Galleria Internazionale d’Arte Moderna, the Venice Pavilion in the Biennale Giardini, and at Centro Culturale Candiani and Forte Marghera, two venues increasingly utilised for contemporary art and creative purposes. The works competing in the glass design section will also be displayed in the rooms of the historic Fondazione Bevilacqua La Masa at San Marco during the fourth edition of The Venice Glass Week international festival.
Creators of music videos will also be able to perform live during the Home Venice Festival, held at Parco San Giuliano during the summer. The Artefici del nostro tempo competition for young artists was devised during the 58th Venice Biennale International Art Exhibition as a way of promoting and disseminating contemporary creative trends and concretely helping young artists to introduce themselves to a wider and more informed audience.
