Venice Open Stage 2016
Theater International Festival of Universities and Art Schools
Venice Open stage comes around with its 4th edition. As every year, the International Festival of Theater takes place in the old city-center of Venice, in Campo San Sebastiano, and it lasts from the end of June to the very first days of July.

There's No Place Like
Running Time: 60 minutes
The show tells the story of a non-British barmaid meeting a British costumer and their different perceptions of what home is. It brings up questions of longing, belonging and immigration in a way that is unquestionably relevant to society in our days.

Aristotle University – Thessaloniki/ GREECE
ICON
Running Time: 40 minutes
A series of events inscribed in a space. Three women converse using simple means, and the music participates by reshaping icons into a setting. The only material is paper, as the structural element of an architectural planning of space. Principle of all things is the floor. A re-constructed floor, the only material of which is the egg carton.

Scuola Teatro Dimitri – Verscio/ SWITZERLAND
INSOMNIA
Running Time: 55 minutes
A theatre performance written by seven student of the Master that combines physical theatre, puppets and live music. The show is based on texts and poetries by different authors, directors and choreographers of the last century, as Artaud, Grotowsky, Laban, Craig, etc.

Persepolis
Running Time: 20 minutes
Persèpolis is a project that, through conventions of the physical theatre, aims to develop an actual and controversial topic such as diaspora of a population in war. This piece germinates in an expressive space in between dance and visual theatre, treating the distance among the Middle East and the occidental culture gently. This performance, freely inspired on Marjane Satrapi’s comic Persèpolis, uses a particular story to talk about a universal issue.

I Persiani
Running Time: 70 minutes
One of the most important piece of the occidental theatre, the oldest work passed in an integral form. It arrives through the centuries always with the same strength and is capacity to give to the audience a reflet of hard times. The show realised by the third year’s students told it through the storytelling, the choral movement, the dialogues and the typical masques of the commedia dell’arte.

Macbeth in the kitchen
Running Time: 50 minutes
This play is indeed, to quote from Shakespeare himself, a tale told by an idiot. A self-proclaimed idiot, that is. The setting of this play is a kitchen really! The characters are the utensils and ingredients used in preparing the Turkish dish ‘menemen’, a traditional omelette. And the taste is good as the play.

Running Time. 60 minutes
The necessity of travelling, lose our senses, and to find themselves in the wandering and the erring. These aspects of the exile, invoked as a poetic island, are the starting point to keep the traces left by the human beings. Reinventing the history of a person imagining the tracks of his existence: the stranger’s footprint crosses our road, a living being that release himself from a scrap of his history before dissolving himself in the dark.

A house in the middle of the cherries, the vines goes up to the roof, the three light-window. Outside a lightly river, the far mountains, green fields, the silence. Since fifteen years Margarita and his master they wake up, they smile themselves, and they live in peace in their eternal home. Moscow is a far memory. A forgotten dream. Maybe never existed.

Università Iuav / Corso di laurea magistrale in Scienze e tecniche del teatro – Venice/ ITALY
Barbablù
Running Time: 60 minutes
Based on the libretto of Béla Balázs, written for the opera written by Béla Bartók. The fairy tale in Hungary (director’s birthplace) is a text studied in every schools since childhood and is an important part of traditional culture. A story of a travel throughout the protagonist’s soul, from his darkness to the celestial light. A sacral direction in the last religious place of the university, the theatre court of the Therese’s convent.
