Scuola Grande dei Carmini
Initially founded as a "Devotional School" by the Carmelite brothers, it was expanded in its pre-existing structures by following the plan by Baldassarre Longhena, who finished the walls in 1668. It is structured on three floors and linked by a massive double ramped flight of stairs, believed to have been designed by Longhena, but brought to completion after his death by his apprentice, Antonio Gaspari. The architectonic elements inserted echo the typical Venetian style used at the time: barrel vaults, ornamentation of opulent stuccoes and numerous frescoes, among which several by Sante Piatti. The top of the third flight of steps opens onto the "Sala Capitolare" the Chapter Hall, a magnificent hall decorated with canvases by Tiepolo and used for Scuola meetings. The hall was decorated between 1664 and 1674 by Domenico Bruni.
