Vincenzo Coronelli (1650-1718) the image of the world

To celebrate the 3 centenary of the death of the great Venetian, The Biblioteca Marciana, in collaboration with Marica Milanesi, Heide Wohlschläger (Wohlschläger Collection – Vienna), Christa Schuster and Rudolf Schmidt Jr. (for Rudolf Schmidt Collection-Vienna), organizes in its monumental halls (Libreria Sansoviniana) the exhibition "VINCENZO CORONELLI (1650-1718). The image of the world – THE IMAGE OF THE WORLD – DAS BILD DER WELT "The monographic issue of the journal" Globe studies "(in Italian, English and German) of the International Coronelli Society for the studies of globes in Vienna, devoted to this exhibition will also be an opportunity to present a project for the restoration of the two Marciana halls.

The Venetian Friar Vincenzo Coronelli of the  Franciscans order was for more than twenty years the most famous Builder of Globes in Europe. Coronelli gave life in the convent of the friars in a laboratory where they were produced, with the collaboration of brothers, of craftsmen and labourers, books illustrated by views and plants, star charts and geographic and globes of various sizes. Between 1701 and 1704 he was also General of his religious order. Atlases and globes by Coronelli had a wide international clientele,

The exhibition will be open to public from 17th february to 15th April 2018 entrance from Museo Correr, Piazza San Marco – Ala Napoleonica 

Opening cerimony on 17th february 2018 at 11.30 entrance from Piazzetta San Marco 13/a.
