Shirin Neshat

The Home of My Eyes

Iranian-born artist Shirin Neshat (1957) lives and works in New York. She studied art in Los Angeles during the years of the Iranian Revolution (1978-79), and witnessed from the US the 1990s rise of Islamic fundamentalism in her country of origin. Neshat has chosen
photography as her main means of expression, but she also creates conceptual installations and dynamic space-time cinema. Her work is primarily concerned with identity, in particular that of women. She describes her work as “personal, political and emotional”. For the
exhibition The Home of My Eyes, Neshat presents a series of photographs from 2015 never before shown in Europe. The photos are portraits of individuals residing in various regions of Azerbaijan, each with a different religious belief, but all presented in the installation as part of the same community. Shown alongside these images is a video, Roja, by Neshat and based on a dream.
