Friday July 15th 2016 at 8.30 p.m. at the Redentore Church (Church of the Redeemer) a magnificent concert of sacred music will take place for the Redentore Feast 2016, a traditional cultural event promoted and organized by Associazione Culturale Musica Venezia, offered to the city of Venice. Admission Free.
When the plague arrived in Venice in 1575, more than 50,000 Venetians died, including the great artist Titian. For being saved from their suffering by Christ the Redeemer, the senate voted in favor of construction of a new church in his name on the island of the Giudecca, commissioning Andrea Palladio to design it.
On 20 July 1577 the end of the plague was celebrated with a procession which reached the Redentore Church over a bridge of boats. This event has become an annual Venetian event on the third weekend of July.
