The Premio Mestre di Pittura was founded in 1958 as a result of the farsighted idea of artist Andreina Crepet Guazzo, who from the early 1950s recognised the increasingly decisive economical and artistic role of the city of Mestre.
After ten successful editions, in 1967-1968 the Prize was cancelled, but more than half a century later (2017) the award was reinstated, thanks to the efforts of the members of Il Circolo Veneto.
The last edition, held in September 2018 at the Centro Culturale Candiani, involved a partnership with the Fondazione Musei Civici di Venezia in selecting the works, organising the exhibition and preparing the catalogue.
With the support of the Veneto region, the Metropolitan City of Venice and a large number of collectors and enthusiasts, the 2019 third edition of the renewed Premio Mestre di Pittura is set to become a regular event, during which new generations of exhibiting artists can share their breadth of painting styles.
