Monday, November 4, the “National Unity and Armed Forces Day” is celebrated, commemorating Italy's victory in World War I, an event considered the completion of the state's unification process. The ceremony will feature a flyover by the Frecce Tricolori over Venice, with the presence of the President of the Republic, Sergio Mattarella, Defense Minister Guido Crosetto, along with top political, institutional, and Defense authorities.
Participation in the event, which will take place in Piazza San Marco, with the ceremony starting at 10:45 am, is free, but requires prior reservation until all available spots are filled. Standing room only.
ORDERS
- A command order from the Local Police will enforce certain changes to pedestrian and water traffic. To manage the flow in the areas affected by the event, access will be restricted in Piazza San Marco, Piazzetta San Marco, Piazzetta dei Leoncini up to Ramo va in Canonica, Marzaria de l’Orologio, calle del Selvadego, Bocca de Piazza, calle Larga de l’Ascension, calle Seconda de l’Ascension, the San Marco pier between Ponte de la Paglia and the Accademia dei Pittori bridge, and the Giardini ex Reali. Access will only be allowed through designated gates to individuals with prior accreditation for specific zones and sectors indicated on their access ticket. Additionally, any outdoor seating in Piazza and Piazzetta San Marco, including those under the Procuratie Nuove, Piazzetta dei Leoncini, calle de la Canonica, and the pier will be suspended. - Every water landing point between the AVM dock at Calle Vallaresso (inclusive) and the gondola station at Piazza San Marco-Molo (with activity restrictions) will also be closed to local public transportation. - For the occasion, Venice Mayor Luigi Brugnaro has signed an order establishing public safety and security measures. Effective from 2:00 am on Monday, November 4, until further notice, it prohibits access to the Piazza and Piazzetta San Marco area with glass containers, closed cans, or capped plastic bottles. On November 4, Italy commemorates its fallen and the Armistice of Villa Giusti (which came into effect on November 4, 1918), allowing Italians to return to the territories of Trento and Trieste, thereby completing the national unification process initiated during the Risorgimento.
