It is one of the eight churches of Venice founded in the sixth century by the bishop San Magno. It was destroyed by fire in 1105 and it was rebuilt and consecrated in 1193. The building, once known for the body of the martyr St. Nicetas stored in the main altar, was demolished and rebuilt between 1618 and 1639 by Francesco Contino who changed the guidance to contrast it to the Church of San Sebastiano. Of the expected three facades, only towards the canal was completed (1735). The Greek cross interior retains many masterpieces of the Venetian eighteenth century : " St. Francis receiving the stigmata ", by Jacopo Palma the Younger, the five sub-funds dedicated to the biblical story of Tobias and the angel, placed on the parapet of the organ and eighteenth-century paintings by Giovanni Antonio Guardi. The Church also holds various precious objects, such mariegole of the '500 and '600, choir books and vestments.
