Cinematographic listening of the Grand Canal

Fondazione Ugo e Olga Levi In partnership with Fondazione centro studi sull'arte Licia e Carlo Ludovico Ragghianti

Topics:

The evocative setting offered by the Grand Canal was framed in the very first tracking shots in the history of cinema, on 25 October 1896, with the short film under the title "Panorama du Grand Canal pris d'un bateau", that is “View of the Grand Canal taken from a boat” by Alexandre Promio. From that moment on, the charm of the Grand Canal, as well as the entire Venetian lagoon, has contributed to creating a link between Venice and the cinema.  In fact, to date there have been around seven hundred films taken in the Venetian capital. The extraordinary beauty of certain places can be identified as the starting point of the cinematographic creative process backed, in particular cases, by music that has been specifically written. The Research Group "Music criticism and film music" of the Ugo and Olga Levi Foundation aims at proposing some thoughts on the works that have immortalized the Grand Canal, focusing on the music/image binomial. There are many examples, as well as a variety of film genres that can be drawn on.

The event wil be broadcasted also on the Foundation's youtube channel:
