Querini and the sea

The Sensa and the Querini Stampalia: one of the oldest Venetian celebrations through the history and the collections of one of the most important families of the Serenissima.

Friday may 6th 2016 at 5.30 pm appointment at the Querini Stampalia Foundation to re-discover, in an innovative way, the millennial link between Venice and the sea, thanks to important archival documents and to a "theme" path along the halls of the Museum.

After a brief introduction on the Querini family, the itinerary continues through paintings, ancient manuscripts, maps and miniatures.

From the best known The departure of the Bucintoro by Antonio Stom (oil on canvas, post 1729) to the works of Gabriel Bella with its views and its interiors of Venetian public life, a precious frame for the narration to witness how, even in the mid-eighteenth century, the celebration of the Ascension is fully part in the iconographic representation of the myth of Venice. The initiative is a collateral event of the Festa della Sensa 2016.
