The tradition of double choir in the Republic of Venice – Music to see

Topics:

The performance practice of the double choir is a pride of the Venetian School of sixteenth and seventeenth centuries.

The novelty element that characterizes the double choir consists in the fact that the two choirs not only alternate, but in different ways and measures, depending on the style of the composers, they intersect and overlap, giving life to a continuous musical dialogue on different levels. The double choir found its roots in the Gregorian tradition.

The charm of the double choir performances is also enhanced by the scenic element: the vocal ensemble in fact splits into two similar groups that are spatialized by positioning themselves at a distance and facing each other, the two choirs sing now alternating now joining with great sound variety and a suggestive stereophonic effect.

In the magnificent setting of the Sala Capitolare of the Scuola Grande di San Rocco, fully frescoed by Tintoretto, the Orchestra Senzaspine, the Polifonica Benedetto Marcello and the Kolbe Children's Choir (children’s voices and youth section of the choir) will lead us on an exciting journey through the sound of polyphony.

Music by Monteverdi and Vivaldi

The Dixiti Dominus RV 594 will be performed in its entirety, for two choirs, solos and orchestra.

Choir conductor: Alessanrdro Toffolo

Conductor: Tommaso Ussardi

The event is organized by the Rotary Clubs of Venezia Mestre Torre with the Rotaract Club Mestre Insieme and by the Rotary Club of Venice with the Rotaract Club Venice.
