Architectural projects: the drawings of Giacomo Quarenghi at Gallerie dell'Accademia

From 01st March to 17th June 2018 2018 on the occasion of the bicentenary of the death of Giacomo Quarenghi (1744-1817), the Accademia galleries offer an exhibition dedicated to architectonics projects of the author from Bergamo belonging to their Collections.Aproximately 100 drawingsWill be exposed , mostly unedit and ever presented to the public, among the most representative of the Museum's architectural graphic sheets 213, while the catalog prepared for the occasion will include the  entire core. The designs of Giacomo Quarenghi arrived at the Academy of Venice in 1824, two years after the purchase of the prestigious collection of  Giuseppe Bossi drowings. Quarenghi, great classical interpreter and deep fan of Andrea Palladio was called in Russia in 1779 by Catherine II (1762-1796) and soon became the official architect. After the death of Empress  he continued working for many years with his successors, his son Paul I (1796-1801) and his nephew Alexander I (1801-1825), until the end of his days in St. Petersburg in 1817. The work of Quarenghi was not limited however only to the Imperial Court, but also spread to the highest ranking aristocracy, local and international,  around the capital.
