79th Venice International Film Festival

Biennale Cinema 2022

Topics:

The 79th Venice International Film Festival, directed by Alberto Barbera and organised by La Biennale di Venezia will take place at Venice Lido from 31 August to 10 September.

Actress and presenter Rocío Muñoz Morales  will open the Festival on the evening of Wednesday 31 August 2022, on the stage of Sala Grande (Palazzo del Cinema on the Lido) for the inauguration ceremony, and will host the closing ceremony on Saturday 10 September, when the winners of the Lions and other official prizes will be announced.

This year the Golden Lion for Lifetime Achievement have been awarded to the French actress Catherine Deneuve, one of the key figures of the Nouvelle Vague and one of the greatest actresses in film history, and to Paul Schrader, American director (The Card Counter, First Reformed, Cat People, American Gigolo) and screenwriter (Raging Bull, Taxi Driver, Obsession, The Yakuza), one of the most important American filmmakers of his generation.

White Noise, written and directed by Noah Baumbach, starring Adam Driver, Greta Gerwig, Don Cheadle, Raffey Cassidy, Sam Nivola, May Nivola, Jodie Turner-Smith, André L. Benjamin and Lars Edinger will be the Opening Film, in Competition, of the Festival. Adapted from the great Don DeLillo novel, the film dramatizes a contemporary American family's attempts to deal with the mundane conflicts of everyday life while grappling with the universal mysteries of love, death, and the possibility of happiness in an uncertain world.
