Natura prima?

Topics:
Stephen Turner (Eggman)is pleased to announce the launch of his international project Natura Prima? with a major solo show at the Bevilacqua La Masa Foundation Institution at the 58th International Art Exhibition in Venice. With his arrival in the lagoon, the English artist inaugurates two residences in opposing water communities - in Giudecca, Venice with the Bevilacqua La Masa Foundation Institution, and in Thamesmead, London, in collaboration with Bow Arts. Together with the previous works, the exhibition will also document the first results of the two residences. At Palazzetto Tito, Stephen Turner presents for the first time the new work, the Giudecca Egg, a sculpture made with the plastic donated by the inhabitants of Giudecca and recovered by the artist himself in the Venice lagoon while he was in residence on the Giudecca April 2019. Continuing to focus on the phrase ex ovo omnia (everything comes from the egg) Turner subverts its meaning: the plastic becomes the egg from which nothing can be born. Also the work of the Venetian artist Margherita Gramegna, The Egg of Giudecca, is included in the Palazzetto Tito exhibition: a film that documents the creation of the Giudecca Egg by Turner and presents the participation of the inhabitants of Giudecca and young artists of the Bevilacqua La Masa. The exhibit Natura Prima? also includes the famous projects The Exbury Egg, Seafort, Materia Prima, Urban Fringe and Cella, the temple of the XXI century by the sea. The Eggman, the character that Turner created for the Exbury Egg Project and the later residences at Burnley, Portsmouth, Milton Keynes and Hastings, is the one who creates connections, and becomes the interlocutor between man and nature, encouraging dialogue between communities and a more holistic approach to life and well-being, in an era of anxiety in which science, faith, politics and economics no longer provide the certainties of the past, and we face a worried and unsustainable future. Nature First? it is presented in collaboration with the Bevilacqua La Masa Foundation Institution, Venice; Bow Arts, London; 51zero, Kent and The Artists Agency, England and is financially supported by Bow Arts and public funding by the National Lottery through Arts Council England.
