William Merritt Chase (1849-1916). A painter between New York and Venice
Co-organized by The Phillips Collection, Washington, DC, Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, and Terra Foundation for American Art, the Fondazione Musei Civici of Venice presents - first European preview -a major retrospective dedicated to the American artist William Merritt Chase .
The International Gallery of Modern Art of Ca 'Pesaro, will exhibit from February 11 to May 28, about sixty works by Chase from public and private American collections.
The exhibition, under the scientific direction of Gabriella Belli (Director of Fondazione Musei Civici of Venice), Dorothy Kosinski (Director The Phillips Collection) and Matthew Teitelbaum (Ann and Graham Gund Director Museum of Fine Arts, Boston), curated by Elsa Smithgall, Erica E. Hirshler, Katherine M. Bourguignon and Giovanna Ginex, will also include the only work by Chase in Italy - Self-Portrait (1908) - an exceptional loan from the Uffizi Gallery.
