The Sleeping Beauty is probably the most moving and famous fairy tale from the Romantic period. It was Charles Perrault’s renowned version that inspired Tchaikovsky for the composition of the second of his three ballets, following the request of Prince Ivan Vsevolozhsky who was then the powerful superintendent of the Imperial Theatres in Saint Petersburg; the latter also wrote the libretto. In 1890 the opera met with resounding success at the Mariinsky Theatre, also thanks to the choreography by the dance champion Marius Petipa, who also worked on the text. The sleeping young girl and victim of a spell, Aurora will never be forgotten, also thanks to the Disney cult movie
