Regatta of the Ancient Maritime Republics 2018

GENOA - June 3 2018

The Palio of the Ancient Maritime Republics is a competition of galleons with eight rowers, between the crews of the town of Amalfi, Genoa, Pisa and Venice, born after the second world war and held in rotation in the four cities.
 
The competition is preceded by the solemn historical parade, where people in costume, with flags, trumpets and drums, evoke the  events and characters related to the maritime history of the city.
The sports competition pits the crews of four cities, each consisting of eight rowers and a coxswain, on boats, all built with the same parameters, which differ in color and figureheads.
For the winner of the regatta, the coveted trophy in gold and silver produced by Florence Jewellery School which remains in the hands of the winning city for a year, to be offered again at the next race.

In 2018, it will be the city of Genoa to host the 63rd edition of the Palio of the Ancient Maritime Republics.
 

PROGRAMME

Sunday, June 3 the Regatta of the Ancient Italian Maritime Republics will be disputed in Genoa Prà.  This sporting event was established in 1955 with the aim of reviving the challenge between the four Maritime Republics.

Saturday 2 June

h. 8.30pm historical Parade starting from Piazza De Ferrari

Before the regatta, on Saturday June 2 a historical parade consisting of about 250 participants will be held, revoking and interpreting episodes and historic figures related to the maritime history of their city and the role it has played in the Mediterranean context.

Sunday 3 June

at Fascia di Rispetto Pra’
