Juan Navarro Baldeweg

Anillos / Anelli

Topics:

Ca’ Pesaro hosts one of the most authoritative and eclectic Spanish practitioners of contemporary art and architecture: Juan Navarro Baldeweg.
Architect, painter, sculptor, engraver, lecturer and essayist, Baldeweg has designed some of the most emblematic Spanish buildings of recent decades, among them the Palace of Congresses and Exhibitions of Castilla and León in Salamanca, the Altamira Research and Museum Centre in Santillana del Mar, the Teatros del Canal in Madrid, and the Museum of Human Evolution in Burgos (completed in 2012). He is also one of the most renowned Spanish architects at an international level, with projects such as the Hertziana Library in Rome and the Novartis Laboratories campus in Basel. His paintings and sculptures are also present in many Spanish museums. It is precisely his presence in diverse fields of aesthetics and art that makes him unusual. In fact, the origin of Baldeweg’s creativity resides neither in his architecture or painting projects, nor in his artworks or installations. Instead, like Mallarmé, he works simultaneously on everything, or, more specifically, he organises themes as they come to mind.

These he elaborates, and when he feels they have reached a degree of definition and are ready for use, he expresses them through painting, sculpture or architecture. The desired result is that the ideas can be common to all disciplines.

They are elements of nature, such as weight, balance, light or time, capable of stimulating situations in any artistic field.
