The City Library System handles organization of the public reading services of the City of Venice in a single structure, with a view to promoting cooperation between all the libraries in the city. Its primary activity consists in documenting and collecting information according to the current methods of public reading. The service is organized in accordance with the principle of merging some common functions and administration and decentralizing other specific activities that denote the individual libraries, while harmonizing the activities of centralized support services and a number of centres serving the public and are distributed across the territory with local and city-wide functions.
