Eko Dance Project
Extracts from "Sleeping Beauty"
Choreography Mats Ek, music Piotr Tchaikovsky
Extracts from "MessiaHaendel"
Choreography Paolo Mohovich, music G.F. Haendel

Eko Dance Project, under the direction of Pompea Santoro, presents an evening in which the theme of love and beauty are at the heart of the choreographies. The first one, (extracted from “The Sleeping Beauty” by Mats Ek), brings to the stage a profane love in the most humane sense of the term; a love born from the pain of a young woman who became addicted and destructive and has nothing to do with the sacral archetypal love, but reflects tragically on a decadent humanity and not an empathic one.
Messiahaendel, an original creation of the choreographer Paolo Mohovic, presents some images of the sacred history, as if they were paintings of Caravaggio . It revolves around that religious love , which is represented by the saving sacrifice made by Jesus for the entire humanity ; a total embracing love without limits ; self-immolated in a completely altruistic way. Also, some choral extracts are presented, such as a duet of Maria and Josef and of Maria Magdalena and Jesus. Jesus represents
the eternal love, the one that will save the humanity.
Eko Dance Project was born as a spontaneous experiment in 2011 and, in October 2012, it turned into a real project in which Pompea Santoro presents a high level preparation of classical and contemporary dance. Pompea was inspired by Mats Ek for more than 30 years. He led her to elaborate a method of studying ballet. Paired up with Pompea’s experience is her husband Veli Peltokallio, who shared with her many years as soloists at the Cullberg Ballet. Eko Dance, therefore, is based on solid artistic and professional bases, from which it draws inspiration to propose new educational and cultural fruition, to divulge and promote the knowledge and the practice of dance, to offer an opportunity of artistic and technical development to it’s young dancers. Eko Dance is an Italian excellence, since 2019 has the support and patronage of the Piedmont Region, recognized as a highlevel training project.
Pompea Santoro is one of the most important dancers of the international scene. She danced for 25 years in the most prestigious theatres of the world as a soloist for Cullberg Ballet, famous for its choreographer Mats Ek.
