The church of St. Mary of Nazareth, better known as the Church of the Discalced in Venice is located in front of the Ponte degli Scalzi. It was built starting from 1654 with the design of Baldassare Longhena for a small community of Discalced Carmelites, from which it derives its name. The grand facade built by Giuseppe Sardi, is punctuated by numerous niches with statues. The interior decoration was entrusted to several artists, among others Giovan Battista Tiepolo, who frescoed a chapel and the ceiling, which was however destroyed by an Austrian bomb in 1915.
