Chiesa di San Tomà

Church of San Tomà

San Tomà
30100 Venezia VE
The Church of San Toma (or St. Thomas the Apostle) was founded in the ninth century and rebuilt several times: the façade is the work of Sardi on a design by Longhena and was rebuilt in 1742 by Bognolo.  From 25 October 1810, it became the seat of a Parish entrusted to diocesan priests, that stretched, in part, on the territory of the old suppressed parishes. After more than a century, being the patriarch of Venice, Cardinal Pietro La Fontaine, the Conventual obtained from the Vatican apostolic rescript of Pope Benedict XV of the 27 December 1921, permission to take care of the parish of which S. Toma is a part.

The church is currently closed to the public.
