Church of S. Carlo Borromeo (Cappuccini)

Via Cappuccina, 2
30172 Mestre Venezia VE

Important in Mestre were the Capucin Friars, a reformed Franciscan order, widely admired for their preaching but also for the spirit of charity that distinguished them. They were invited by the City Council in 1610 to settle in Mestre, in a parcel of land owned by the Scuola dei Battuti, on the road that led to Bottenigo and which was then named "dei Cappuccini" (the present-day Via Cappuccina). The church was completed in two years and was consecrated in 1617, thanks to the generous contribution of the government and the local population: small, rectangular and simple, in keeping with the spirit of St. Francis, it was dedicated to S. Carlo Borromeo.
