Ca' Foscari
Ca' Foscari, the palace of the Foscari family, is a Gothic building on the waterfront of the Grand Canal in the Dorsoduro sestieri of Venice, Italy. It was built for the doge Francesco Foscari in 1453, and designed by the architect Bartolomeo Bon. It is now the main seat of Ca' Foscari University of Venice.
"Anyone who walks along the Grand Canal from the Rialto Bridge to St. Mark’s Square cannot help but notice the splendid building owned by the Foscari family. Sited at the corner of the Riva di S. Pantaleone, at the curve in what Byron has called the most beautiful lane in the world, Palazzo Foscari is virtually the quintessence of a long series of patrician residences. It surprises no less for the majesty of the location as for its elegant architectures." This is how Federico Stefani, long the director of the Archivio di Stato di Venezia, described Ca' Foscari - the home, Palazzo Foscari - seat of the Regia Scuola Superiore di Commercio in Venezia, in a volume of News and Documents presented in 1911 at the International Expo in Turin, the event that celebrated the fiftieth anniversary of the proclamation of the Kingdom of Italy.
