The library has valuable examples of Byzantine and Venetian bound books, as well as illuminated manuscripts, early printed books and illuminated codes.

The Library is especially acclaimed for its collection of Greek works (one of the most important in the world), manuscripts on Veneto subject matter and for the rare Venetian editions. With its 13,057 manuscripts, 2,883 incunabulums, 24,055 sixteenth-century books, 3,731 periodicals (among which 960 current) and some one million volumes, the Marciana represents a significantly complex organizational and administrative body. Today, with its one hundred employees, the Marciana handles an annual flow 34.500 visitors, handling some 66.000 works in direct consultation within the Library and over 8 ,000 through local lending and national and international interlibrary lending services.
