To be...or not to be?

The Peggy Guggenheim Collection presents its latest activities for Family Card members: six workshops to be held between November 2015 and April 2016.

Philosophy has always acted as a filter on our ability to think, to narrate, to question ourselves and the surrounding world, just like art does. Children are not afraid to pose questions, nor to offer brave and resourceful answers, and are thus better philosophers than adults are.

Members participating to the program will be given a special passport to register their activities through this one-year-long itinerary.

Advance booking required due to limited enrollment.  All activities will take place at the Peggy Guggenheim Collection.

  Nice to Meet You! (Hold on, Who am I?)

  To introduce and to portray ourselves, or to narrate our stories—a fundamental question for both artists and philosophers—may not be as simple as it seems.
  How do we see ourselves? How do others see us? To be or not to be?

  What an Idea!
  11am for children 11-14 years old| 3:30pm for children 6-10 years old
  Ideas are everywhere and nowhere. Plato thought we find them beyond the celestial vault, while Aristotle believed we can create them. How do we look for them? Where do they go when they are not inside us? Can we create new ones?
  At the museum, we will cultivate them in a special island.

  Rules and Chance

  What is creativity? What is inspiration? Do they suffice in the making of a work of art? A workshop on art, nature, games, the need for rules, and the need to break away from them … in an orderly but imaginative way.

  There's Nothing! Is It Empty?
  11am for children 11-14 years old| 3:30pm for children 6-10 years old
  What is nothingness? Does it exist? And if so, why? Over centuries, philosophers and scientists have provided quite different answers. Japanese art will help us understand the difference between emptiness and nothingness.

  “How Beautiful!”
  11am for children 11-14 years old| 3:30pm for children 6-10 years old
  What is the difference between nice, beautiful, sublime, kitsch, and ugly? What brings you to say "I like it" or "I don't like it"? By impersonating a scientist-philosopher, we will tour the museum looking for proofs of what is "truly beautiful."

  Remembrance of Things Past
  11am for children 11-14 years old| 3:30pm for children 6-10 years old
  St Augustine maintained he knew what time was but could not explain it. This workshop on time will help you discover why a day spent playing games goes faster than a day spent in the classroom.

To enroll please fill in and send via email or fax, together with receipt of payment, the enrollment form published on the museum website 15 days prior to the activity.
Participation fee is 5 euros per person.
